2024 Mathematics Textbook and Instructional Materials Review Process

April 25, 2024 - At the April 25, 2024 Board of Education meeting, the revised timeline for the Mathematics Textbooks and Instructional Materials Review Process was presented to the Board of Education.

September 14, 2023 - The Virginia Board of Education adopted the 2024 Mathematics Textbook Review Process.

Resources Now Available to Support the 2023 Mathematics Standards of Learning

Instructional resources that are aligned to the 2023 Mathematics Standards of Learning are now available on the 2023 Mathematics Instructional Resources webpage.

2023 Mathematics Standards of Learning

The 2023 Mathematics Standards of Learning were approved by the Virginia Board of Education on August 31, 2023. The 2023 Mathematics Standards of Learning represent "best in class" standards and comprise the mathematics content that teachers in Virginia are expected to teach and students are expected to learn. The 2023 Mathematics Standards of Learning will be fully implemented during the 2024-2025 school year.

Award Programs

  • Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching – The Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) is the highest recognition that a kindergarten through 12th-grade mathematics or science teacher may receive for outstanding teaching in the United States.
  • William C. Lowry Math Educator of the Year – Each year the Virginia Council of Teachers of Mathematics recognizes a classroom teacher on the elementary, middle, secondary, university, and mathematics specialist/coach level for his or her outstanding work and accomplishments in the teaching of mathematics.
