Lisa Coons
Governor Glenn Youngkin appointed Dr. Coons as Virginia’s 27th superintendent of public instruction on March 22, 2023. Coons serves as the executive officer of the Virginia Department of Education, which is the administrative agency for the commonwealth's public schools, and as secretary of the state Board of Education.
Chief of Staff
Jeremy Raley
Dr. Raley served as superintendent of Goochland County Public Schools for seven years before joining VDOE as chief of staff. He began his public education career in Shenandoah County as a physical education teacher and subsequently served as a principal and then as division superintendent.
