The Office of Parental Engagement welcomes parents to explore the resources provided here to support their child’s journey to academic excellence. When parents, teachers, and schools partner to create a strong foundation for learning, development, and personal growth, students are more likely to experience improved outcomes. Parental engagement is vital to the academic success of children.

VDOE has a Parent Ombudsman for Special Education who acts as a source of information and referral, aids in answering individuals' questions, and assists in the resolution of concerns and issues. School divisions, parents, and children benefit and build relationships when school divisions and parents work together to resolve problems. The Parent Ombudsman for Special Education serves to facilitate that process.

Students across the commonwealth in grades 3 through 8 are demonstrating persistent learning loss as a result of the pandemic. Governor Youngkin outlined Virginia’s ALL In plan that targets high-intensity academic tutoring for students who failed their SOLs or who demonstrate risk of failing. Focused on helping students recover learning lost to the pandemic, Virginia’s school divisions have created ALL In plans containing high-intensity tutoring, accelerated literacy preparation, and an emphasis on school attendance to help our students catch up and step ahead as they reclaim the learning they missed.
