VDOE publishes annual state-level, division-level and school-level cohort reports that detail outcomes for students who entered the ninth-grade for the first time together and were scheduled to graduate four years later.

The customizable reporting tool includes state-, division-, and school-level reports by various student demographics for the:

  • Virginia On-Time Graduation Rate, Virginia's official graduation rate which expresses the percentage of students in a cohort who earned any Board of Education-approved diploma within four years of entering high school for the first time and allowances for special education and English Learners whose eduational plans allow for additional years in high school, 
  • Federal Graduation Indicator, used for federal accountability which expresses the percentage of students in a cohort who earned only a Standard, Advanced Studies, or IB diploma within four years of entering high school for the first time,
  • Cohort Dropout Rate used in state Accrediation as the rate inwhich students dropout of high school instead of earning a diploma or certificate, and
  • other categories of students including those still enrolled and those on long-term leave.

Percentages are based on longitudinal student-level data and account for student mobility, retention, and promotion patterns.
