Cohort Graduation and Dropout Reports

Upon entering a Virginia public high school for the first-time, each student is assigned to a graduation cohort that equates to four years in high school.  At the conclusion of the cohort year, both graduation and dropout rates are calculated.  The rates are based on longitudinal student-level data and account for student mobility, retention and promotion patterns. The Virginia On-time Graduation Rate and is recognized by the Board of Education as the commonwealth's official graduation rate.

Annual Graduation Reports

Annual graduation reports include the number of graduates earning a Virginia Board of Education-approved diploma, and the number of completers earning a GED or a Certificate of Completion at the conclusion of each school year.    

Annual Dropout Report

Annual dropout rates represent the number of dropouts at the conclusion of a school divided by the membership on September 30 of that same school year for students in grades 7-12.

CTE Credential Report 

The Career and Technical Education Credential Report includes customizable state-, division-, and school-level reports about students participating in Virginia Board of Education-approved assessments for industry certifications, state licenses, and/or occupational competency skills certifications.

Postsecondary Enrollment Report of Virginia Public School Graduates and Completers

Reports document numbers and percentages of high school graduates enrolled in postsecondary institutions nationwide. These reports provide the best available estimates and are based on data VDOE obtained from the National Student Clearinghouse.

Postsecondary Achievement Report of Virginia Public School Graduates and Completers

Reports document numbers and percentages of high school graduates who enrolled in a public Institution of Higher Education (IHE) in Virginia and earned one-year of college credit within two years of enrolling in a Virginia public IHE.  These reports provide the best available estimates and are based on state data linked between the Virginia Department of Education and the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
